Kerry Benjoe, President

Kerry Benjoe (EFN Media) is Anishinaabe/Cree/Dakota from Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation in Treaty 4 territory. She has worked in journalism for more than two decades as a reporter, editor, and publisher. Kerry began her career as a freelance journalist before becoming the first Indigenous reporter hired full-time at the Regina Leader-Post. She later earned a Master of Journalism from the University of Regina and worked at CBC Saskatchewan as its first Indigenous Storyteller. In 2021, she took over the operation of Eagle Feather News, which has since evolved into EFN Media, with both digital and print publications.

Maureen Googoo, Vice President

Maureen Googoo is Mi’kmaq from Sipekne’katik First Nation in Mi’kma’ki. She is an award-winning journalist with nearly 40 years of experience across print, radio, and television, including work with CBC and the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network. In 2015, she founded Ku’ku’kwes News, the only news website dedicated to Indigenous coverage in Atlantic Canada, where she continues to serve as owner and editor. Her work reflects a lifelong commitment to Indigenous storytelling and community-based journalism. Maureen has a undergraduate degree in journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) and a Master’s degree in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City.

Katherine Ross, Treasurer

Katherine Ross is a Red River Métis/Nêhiyaw (Peepeekisis Cree Nation) iskwew based on the unceded territories of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples. She is an award-winning storyteller with extensive experience in audio production, sound design, and narrative development. Katherine is the originator of Liminal Story Weaving and Somatic Futurism, approaches that bring together ancestral knowledge and contemporary storytelling practices. Her work focuses on creating culturally supportive spaces for Indigenous voices and advancing storytelling as a tool for connection, healing, and resurgence.

Eden Fineday, Secretary

Eden Fineday is a nêhiyaw iskwêw from Sweetgrass First Nation in Treaty 6 territory and the publisher of IndigiNews. She is the founder and CEO of tâpwêwin media, an Indigenous-led nonprofit focused on advancing Indigenous journalism and storytelling. Eden’s work centers trauma-informed journalism and the creation of culturally safe spaces for both journalists and communities. She has received multiple national journalism awards and leads work that supports Indigenous storytellers across the country.
